NAFDAC uncovers fake bottled water scheme in Rivers

The National Agency for Food and Drug Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a counterfeit bottled water scheme in Port Harcourt targeting the Eva water brand.

NAFDAC revealed this on its official X handle on Thursday.

The agency revealed that officials acted on a tipoff and raided a dilapidated shop disguised as a pool house, where suspects were found producing fake water.

“The operation exposed a disturbing process: used plastic Eva bottles were refilled with contaminated water from a paint bucket, filtered through a dirty rubber funnel covered with cloth, and labeled with counterfeit Eva labels before being sealed with fake corks,” it read in part.

It further disclosed that during the raid on the shop located at Pipe Line Road, Eneka, one suspect, Chibunna James, who was caught in the act, had been arrested, while the mastermind remains at large.

According to the post which displayed a picture of the suspect apprehended and videos of exhibits, the confiscated products have been taken to the NAFDAC office for further investigation.
