The Nigeria Governors’ Forum has welcomed President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the creation of four new Army divisions across the country, describing the move as a major boost to national security.

The forum’s position was contained in a statement issued on Friday in Ilorin by its Chairman and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

According to the statement, the simultaneous establishment of the four divisions represents the largest single expansion of the Nigerian Army in modern history and underscores the Tinubu administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

“We wholeheartedly welcome this development, including the president’s approval for the Army to recruit 28,000 new personnel and acquire additional critical military assets. We are confident that this initiative will strengthen the government’s counterterrorism and anti-banditry efforts,” the statement said.

The forum also pledged its continued support for the president’s efforts to improve national security and advance other key areas of national development.

It further urged Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to help strengthen security across the country.
