NNPC markets AKK Gas Pipeline to investors at Minna forum

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has unveiled investment and business opportunities along the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, urging investors and energy operators to take advantage of the project to increase domestic gas utilisation and industrial development.

The opportunities were presented on Thursday at the 2026 Energy Business Development Forum held at the Government House in Minna, Niger State. The forum, themed “Accelerating Domestic Gas Utilisation and Driving the Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Revolution along the AKK Corridor,” brought together state governments, community leaders, private investors and energy operators.

Speaking at the event, NNPC’s Executive Vice President, Gas, Power and New Energy, Olalekan Ogunleye, said the AKK Gas Pipeline has reached Abuja and will be commissioned in phases later this year.

He added that pipeline laying has been completed in the Kano segment, while work on the Niger State section is expected to be completed before the end of the year.

Ogunleye said the project would stimulate investments in gas-based industries, expand access to cleaner energy and support the Federal Government’s drive to strengthen domestic gas utilisation and the adoption of compressed natural gas (CNG).

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago said the Niger State Government has designated an Industrial Development Park within the 1,000-square-kilometre AKK corridor in the state to attract investors.

According to the governor, the state’s combination of gas, hydro and solar energy provides a strong foundation for agro-allied industries, petrochemical plants and fertiliser production.

The AKK Gas Pipeline is a 614-kilometre, 40-inch pipeline running from Ajaokuta in Kogi State to Kano, with intermediate and terminal gas facilities designed to transport natural gas to off-takers across the corridor.
