NUT presses govt, security agencies to rescue Oriire abductees

The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Oyo State chapter, has called on the government and security agencies to urgently intensify efforts to secure the release of the pupils and teachers abducted in the Oriire Local Government Area attack.

In a statement released on Saturday, the union said the victims have remained in captivity for almost two weeks, describing the situation as distressing for families and the education community.

The NUT said its concern was further heightened after a video released by the abductors showed the victims in a traumatic condition pleading for their release.

It described the situation as heartbreaking and unacceptable, stressing that no child or teacher should be subjected to such treatment.

The union therefore called for a coordinated and intelligence-driven security operation to ensure the safe and immediate release of all abducted persons.

It also urged community leaders and residents to assist security agencies with credible information that could aid rescue efforts.

The NUT expressed solidarity with the families of the victims and reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for safe schools across Oyo State.
