Ogun 2027: Senator Adeola moves to unite APC, seeks Iyabo Obasanjo’s support

Senator Solomon Adeola has intensified moves to unify the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State following his emergence as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

Governor Dapo Abiodun had earlier announced Adeola as the APC consensus candidate after consultations with party stakeholders, a move aimed at promoting unity and continuity within the party.

Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, had initially indicated interest in the race but later stepped down in line with the party’s decision, although she raised concerns about the conduct of the process.

Adeola, who represents Ogun West, visited Iyabo Obasanjo on Tuesday in Abeokuta to seek her support and that of her political structure ahead of the poll.

During the meeting, Adeola commended her for aligning with the party’s position, describing her action as a sign of political maturity and commitment to the progress of the APC in the state.

He assured her that her supporters would be accommodated in party affairs and decision-making processes, stressing the need for inclusiveness and cooperation among all factions.

“Shortly after the party picked me as the consensus governorship candidate, my dear sister, Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, issued a public statement aligning with the party and promised to work with me. I was honoured by her gesture and immediately reached out to thank her. To whom much is given, much is expected. That is why I am here today—to ensure we work together for the progress of our dear state,” Adeola said.

In her response, Obasanjo pledged support for Adeola and the APC, adding that she had already directed her supporters to work for the party’s success, as well as for President Bola Tinubu and other candidates in future elections.
