Olaopa hails Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, highlights gains across key sectors

Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission, Professor Tunji Olaopa, has praised President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as a transformational policy initiative with significant impact across key sectors of Nigeria’s economy.
Speaking at the “1st International Conference on Public Policy, Governance and Development” held on May 26, 2025, at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Olaopa delivered a keynote lecture titled “Building a Promising Future in Africa through Policy Re-Evaluation.” He noted that the agenda was addressing the developmental challenges plaguing African nations, including Nigeria, with a renewed focus on inclusive governance.
Olaopa identified progress in tax reforms, stating that small businesses now enjoy increased exemptions and reduced burdens. He also highlighted enhanced revenue collection efficiency and new tax incentives to stimulate growth in priority sectors while shielding low-income earners from adverse effects.
In the agricultural sector, he pointed to increased productivity through modern techniques, cooperative farming, and better access to inputs like fertilizers and improved seeds. He noted the success of the National Agricultural Growth Enhancement Scheme and wheat production initiatives in northern states, alongside agro-industrial processing zones being implemented in several states.
Olaopa said the power sector has seen sweeping reforms under the agenda. He referenced the Nigeria Power Sector Reform Act 2023, which decentralizes electricity generation and regulation, enabling states like Lagos, Enugu, and Ondo to establish their own regulatory bodies. He also cited investments in metering and alternative energy as part of efforts to resolve longstanding sector challenges.
He further noted developments in the maritime sector, pointing to increased national revenue and improved security. Upgraded port infrastructure at Apapa and Tin Can Island, he said, has enhanced efficiency and boosted the sector’s contribution to the economy.
Highlighting governance innovation, Olaopa praised the creation of the Ministry of Regional Development, calling it an administrative breakthrough aimed at strengthening federalism and creating economic corridors to drive grassroots development.
Olaopa urged academics and policy researchers to contribute actively to the Renewed Hope Agenda by generating evidence-based insights that could further shape public policy and support Nigeria’s path to sustainable transformation.
