An Akure Magistrate’s Court has remanded a young farmer, Shola Olaniyan, over allegations of rape, burglary and theft in Ondo State.

Olaniyan was arraigned by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, on a three-count charge bordering on rape, stealing, and breaking and entering.

The prosecuting counsel, P.O. Nwafor, told the court that the defendant allegedly committed the offences on June 19, 2026, at about 3 a.m. in the Omifon area of Odigbo Local Government Area.

According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly broke into the residence of Mrs. Majide Bosede, stole N50,000 and raped her.

Nwafor further told the court that the alleged rape offence contravened Sections 357 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.

The prosecution also alleged that on June 22, 2026, the defendant broke into the property of Mr. Ijolowo Kehinde and stole cocoa valued at N100,000, an offence said to be punishable under Section 390 of the Criminal Code.

Although the defendant applied for bail, however, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni declined and directed him to secure legal representation before the next adjourned date.

The magistrate subsequently ordered Olaniyan’s remand in custody and adjourned the case until July 29, 2026, for legal representation and further proceedings.
