Ondo woman arraigned for allegedly assaulting husband during domestic dispute

The Ondo State Police Command has arraigned a woman, identified as Olatunde Mary, before a court the state for allegedly inflicting severe injuries on her husband during a domestic altercation.

According to the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the case was reported to the Gender-Based Violence Unit at the police headquarters in Akure on June 3, 2026.

As disclosed, the incident occurred a day earlier when an argument reportedly broke out between the suspect and her husband, Olatunde Julius, at their residence along Igbatoro Road.

Investigators alleged that during the confrontation, the woman attacked her husband and used a cutlass to inflict a deep cut on his left hand, leaving him with serious injuries.

“The victim was immediately taken for medical treatment, where the extent of his injuries was assessed and documented,” the statement said.

Jimoh explained that detectives commenced an investigation after receiving the complaint, obtained statements from both parties and gathered evidence before concluding that there was sufficient ground for prosecution.

Upon the conclusion of the investigation and the establishment of a prima facie case, the suspect was arrested and subsequently arraigned before a competent court in accordance with the law.

The police command further reiterated its commitment to tackling domestic violence, stressing that offenders would be prosecuted irrespective of their gender, status or relationship with the victim. It also urged residents to promptly report cases of abuse and other gender-related offences to law enforcement authorities.
