Osun decides: TICC alleges armed security presence at Speaker’s residence

The Imole Campaign Council (TICC) has raised the alarm over the reported presence of armed security personnel at the residence of the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, on election day.

The council, in a statement by its spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said it received reports that the personnel arrived in more than 10 black Hilux vehicles and surrounded the Speaker’s residence.

According to the statement, the residence had been sealed off, with everyone inside reportedly prevented from leaving the premises.

The council said it could not independently confirm the purpose of the deployment or determine whether the personnel were there to provide security or carry out routine official duties.

It therefore called on relevant security agencies to immediately clarify the purpose of the deployment and the reported restriction of movement at the residence.

“We called the publicly available official contact line of the Commissioner of Police for the election, but our calls were not answered. We also called the DIG Election contact line without response. We further attempted to reach the Police Situation Room, but the publicly provided number is currently switched off,” the council stated.

Olajengbesi urged security agencies to ensure that deployments on Election Day inspire confidence and protect the integrity of the electoral process.

He also called on Osun residents to remain peaceful and law-abiding, saying, “The people of Osun State must be allowed to come out peacefully and decide their future according to their own conscience, without intimidation or interference”.
