Osun election: Adeleke wins 19 LGAs as Oyebamiji secures 11
Governor Ademola Adeleke of the Accord Party has won 19 of the 30 local government areas in the Osun State governorship election, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, secured victory in 11 LGAs.
The results were announced during the ongoing collation of results at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) state collation centre in Osogbo on Sunday.
Adeleke maintained an advantage across several local government areas, including Ede North, Ede South, Ife East, Ife Central, Osogbo, Iwo, Oriade and Odo Otin.
Oyebamiji, however, secured victories in areas including Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun, Atakumosa West, Irewole, Isokan, Olaoluwa, Ife South, Olorunda and Odo Otin.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Najeem Salaam, finished a distant third with 14,989 votes across the state, according to the collated results.
A total of 15 political parties participated in the election, although the contest was largely dominated by the Accord Party and the APC.
The state returning officer, Professor Joshua Ogunwole, vice-chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, is expected to make the final declaration after the completion of the collation process.
The final declaration by INEC will determine the winner of the August 15 governorship election.
