Osun youths begin recall process against Senator Fadahunsi

Youths, students and concerned constituents of Osun East Senatorial District on Wednesday took to the streets of Ilesa in a peaceful protest to commence the recall process against the senator representing the district, Francis Fadahunsi, over an alleged reckless comment made during the 2026 Osun State governorship electioneering period.

The protesters, under the aegis of the Coalition of Youth and Students with Concerned Citizens of Osun East Senatorial District, converged at Enuwa Roundabout and marched through Isokun and Market Square before terminating the procession at the gate of the Owa-Obokun Palace.

Before the election, Fadahunsi was seen in a viral video leading members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a protest over the killing of their supporters. He allegedly made an inciting statement during the protest but later denied claims that the video had been doctored by the ruling party.

Following the controversy, the senator was invited and questioned at the Criminal Investigation Department of the Osun State Police Command in Osogbo, after which he was granted bail.

Addressing journalists on behalf of the protesters, Comrade Olorunfemi Olatunji said the group was opposed to what he described as the senator’s poor representation and reckless statement before the election.

“We, under the aegis of the Coalition of Youth and Students with Concerned Citizens of Osun East Senatorial District, are opposed to the reckless statement made by our senator before the election. This protest is the first stage of our actions. We are recalling him back home. We are still going to Abuja. We have filed the petition and we are following it with action that his recall process will follow,” he said.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo, called for the immediate arrest of Fadahunsi, demanding a transparent and impartial investigation into allegations linked to the electoral process.

“We demand a transparent, impartial and credible investigation into all credible allegations of incitement, threats, killings and political violence connected to the electoral process by Senator Fadahunsi,” he said.
