Oyebanji mourns death of Oba Adebanji Alabi, says Ekiti lost rare monarch

Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has expressed sadness over the death of the Alawe of Ilawe Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi, describing the late monarch’s passing as a huge loss to the state.

Oyebanji, in a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Media, Yinka Oyebode, said the traditional ruler was a custodian of culture, wisdom and history whose reign brought progress to Ilawe Ekiti.

The governor noted that the late monarch played a significant role in the development of Ilawe Ekiti in Ekiti South-West Local Government Area, as well as in the promotion of peace and unity across the state.

He also recalled Oba Alabi’s service as Chairman of the Ekiti State Council of Traditional Rulers between 2019 and 2021, saying the monarch provided purposeful leadership during his tenure.

According to the governor, the late royal father contributed immensely to governance in the state through his experience as a former diplomat and his commitment to conflict resolution and grassroots peacebuilding.

“The demise of Oba Alabi has created a huge vacuum not only in Ilawe Ekiti but in the entire state. He was a selfless leader who dedicated his life to the service of his people,” the statement read.

Oyebanji further described the late monarch as an outspoken and respected traditional ruler who was admired for his contributions to discussions on national development and community affairs.

The governor prayed for the repose of the monarch’s soul and asked God to grant the royal family, traditional rulers and residents of Ilawe Ekiti the strength to bear the loss.
