Police pay ₦25.6m insurance benefits to 37 families in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has disbursed ₦25.57 million in Group Life Assurance and Personal Accident insurance benefits to 37 beneficiaries, including families of officers who died in active service.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, saying the cheques were presented at the police headquarters in Alagbaka, Akure, on September 15.

According to the statement, the beneficiaries received a combined ₦25,577,512.60 under the two insurance schemes designed to provide financial support to police personnel and their families.

Jimoh said the funds were released under the welfare initiative of Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, to cushion the financial difficulties facing the affected families.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, commended Disu for facilitating the release of the funds and reaffirmed the police leadership’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and dependants.

Ohagwu urged the beneficiaries to use the money prudently, particularly for essential family needs, education, investments and other ventures that could provide long-term financial support.

He noted that the intervention came amid economic challenges, adding that the financial assistance would help ease the hardship faced by the affected families.

The beneficiaries, in turn, expressed appreciation to the inspector-general and the commissioner for facilitating the payment, describing the gesture as timely and significant.
