Sad! How 3 National Assembly lawmakers died in one month

Members of the current National Assembly will remember July 2024 as a dark month – When the cold hands of death snatched away three legislators in quick succession.

Hon. Olaide Akinremi ‘Jagaban’

Hon. Musiliudeen Olaide Akinremi

First, it was the House of Representatives member from Ibadan North Federal Constituency of Oyo State, Hon. Olaide Akinremi also known as Jagaban, who passed away at a hospital in Abuja on Wednesday July 10, after a brief illness.

Hon. Akinremi was a second-term lawmaker and member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He was 51 years old.

Barely a week after the demise of the lawmaker from Oyo State, death struck again, claiming the life of Hon. Ekene Abubakar Adams, a member of the Labour Party (LP) from Chikum/Kajuru Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

Hon. Adams died on Tuesday, July 16. He was 39 years old.

As the National Assembly lawmakers were still trying to come to terms with the passing of two of their colleagues, death dealt another blow. This time, however, it struck in the Senate. Nigerians received the shocking news of the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the lawmaker from Anambra South Senatorial District.

Senator Ubah, a notable business tycoon, philanthropist and politician, passed away in London on Friday July 26. He was 52 years old.

However, In May, about two months before Hon. Akinremi’s death, another member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Isa Dogonyaro passed away.

He was representing the Babura/Garki Federal Constituency of Jigawa State and was a member of the APC. He was 46 years old.
