Shettima urges NCS to uphold global standards for made-in-Nigeria products

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on members of the National Council on Skills (NCS) to ensure that Nigerian products and services meet global standards, stressing the importance of skills development in driving the country’s industrial growth.
Shettima made the call on Thursday while presiding over the 8th meeting of the council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja. The council comprises representatives of federal ministries, state governments and the private sector.
He emphasised the need to harness the creativity and innovation of Nigerians, particularly young people, to strengthen the nation’s industrial revolution and improve global competitiveness.
According to the Vice President, the planned inauguration of the National Working Committee for WorldSkills Nigeria goes beyond preparations for the 2026 WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, noting that it is also about positioning Nigeria for global relevance in technical and vocational skills.
“Our goal is to ensure that Made-in-Nigeria is synonymous with world-class,” he said, adding that Nigeria must prepare its workforce to compete internationally.
Shettima highlighted the roles of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), describing them as critical institutions for achieving the human capital development objectives of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
He also stressed the importance of collaboration among stakeholders, noting that the council has a responsibility to create jobs, inspire hope and equip Nigerians with marketable skills.
Meanwhile, the council considered Nigeria’s participation in the WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 competition, which will bring together skilled young professionals from around the world.
