Shettima visits Maiduguri, condoles army over fresh attack

Vows stronger fight against insecurity

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Saturday paid a condolence visit to Maiduguri following a recent attack that killed senior military personnel, including Brigadier General Oseni Braimah, and several soldiers.

The visit, made on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, aims at sympathising with the Nigerian Army and the Borno State government over the loss.

Speaking during the visit, Shettima acknowledged the sacrifices of the fallen troops, noting that their service and bravery were vital to protecting communities and securing the nation’s future.

He emphasised that the cost of peace and security often comes at great personal loss to members of the armed forces.

The Vice President also reassured the military of the Federal Government’s continued operational support, stressing that efforts to combat insecurity would be intensified. He added that under the Tinubu administration, those responsible for violent attacks would be pursued and denied safe haven.

The Defence Headquarters on Thursday confirmed that terrorists and military personnel were killed when insurgents launched a coordinated attack on the 29 Task Force Brigade Headquarters in Benisheikh, Borno State.
