Survivors must rebuild lives beyond abuse – Lagos DSVA

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has urged survivors of domestic and sexual violence to reclaim their voices, rebuild their lives and embrace a future beyond abuse.
The Agency’s Executive Secretary, Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, made the call at the 2026 Survivor’s Day held in Ikeja, Lagos.
The event, themed “Breaking the Cycle, Building Hope,” brought together survivors and stakeholders to discuss healing, resilience, empowerment and stronger support systems for victims of violence.
Vivour-Adeniyi reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to placing survivors at the centre of its interventions and creating safe environments where they can be heard, supported and empowered.
Speaking on healing after violence, Couple, Sex and Mental Health Therapist, Dr. Tolulope Oko-Igale, emphasised the importance of restoring self-worth, identity and confidence after abuse.
However, the Executive Secretary of the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund, Mrs. Feyisola Alayande, said access to economic opportunities and financial independence could help survivors regain stability and build sustainable futures.
A major highlight was the “Survivor Spotlight,” which gave a survivor the opportunity to share her journey from survival to hope.
The programme also featured wellness and interactive sessions. The DSVA stressed that recovery requires sustained support, safe spaces and coordinated interventions.
