Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, began their WAFU B U-17 Women’s Tournament campaign in impressive fashion with a comprehensive 5-0 victory over Niger at the Stade de Yamoussoukro on Wednesday.

Harmony Chidi, Awawu Bashiru, Ohunene Sunday, Mary Dunstan and Ayomide Rotimi were on target as the Nigerian girls secured a convincing win.

Captain Chidi gave the Flamingos a flying start with a composed finish in the 16th minute.

Nigeria continued to dominate proceedings, and their pressure paid off in the 35th minute when Bashiru doubled the lead with an emphatic strike.

The Flamingos went into the break with a two-goal advantage after controlling possession and keeping their opponents largely pinned in their own half.

Sunday extended Nigeria’s lead in the 83rd minute before Dunstan added a fourth goal just a minute later.

Rotimi completed the rout in the 90th minute, putting the finishing touch to an outstanding performance by the Flamingos.

The Flamingos will next face Ghana on Saturday at the Stade de Yamoussoukro as they continue their campaign in the tournament.
