FG suspends King’s College concession, orders talks with old boys

The Federal Government has suspended the implementation of the concession arrangement for King’s College, Lagos, with the school’s old boys’ association for two weeks.

The decision followed an emergency meeting between the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, and labour unions at the ministry on Wednesday.

The meeting also resolved that all industrial action over the concession arrangement should be suspended immediately.

The parties agreed that no staff member would be victimised for participating in industrial action related to the dispute.

As part of the resolutions, policemen deployed to the school premises are to be redeployed.

A seven-member committee was also established to engage further with the King’s College Old Students Association (KCOBA) on the concession arrangement.

The two-week suspension is expected to provide an opportunity for the parties to discuss the issues surrounding the proposed concession.

The resolutions were reached at the end of the emergency meeting convened by the education minister with the labour unions.
