Tinubu nominates new REC, National Commissioner for INEC

President Bola Tinubu has nominated Saseyi Feyijimi Ibiyemi, a seasoned lawyer, as the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State. If confirmed by the Senate, Ibiyemi will succeed Niyi Ijalaye, also a lawyer, who passed away in August while serving as the REC in Ogun State.
Currently, Ibiyemi, 58, serves as the Administrative Secretary for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Lagos State.
Hailing from Ilaje in Ondo State, she earned her law degree from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1987 and was admitted to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later obtained a master’s degree in Election Management from Bingham University in Nasarawa State.
In addition to Ibiyemi, President Tinubu has also put forward Abdulrazak Yusuf Tukur for the position of National Commissioner for INEC, representing the North West.Tukur, 59, holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bayero University, a postgraduate diploma in Economics from Bradford University, UK, and a Master of Arts from Leeds University, also in the UK.
Tukur began his career with INEC in 1999 as an assistant chief administrative officer and eventually advanced to become the Director of Electoral Operations and Logistics, a role he held until December 2023.
Both Ibiyemi and Tukur await Senate clearance for their appointments.
