TV star Tacha demands justice after victim admits fabricating rape allegation

By Folashade Olorunfemi –

Reality TV star Tacha Akide has insisted that Mirabel, the woman who claimed to have been raped by an unknown man, should be punished for making false allegations.

Mirabel’s rape claims, which shook social media on Tuesday, were later admitted by her to be fabricated due to mental instability. Videos of her confession circulated online on Thursday, showing her admitting to Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, that the story was untrue.

The videos sparked strong reactions online, with many calling for Mirabel’s prosecution, while others argued that she needs medical attention to address her mental health challenges.

Criticising her behaviour, Tacha took to X (formerly Twitter) to urge authorities to reprimand Mirabel. She called for the alleged false accuser to receive the same punishment as a rapist, citing the dangers of false allegations.

She wrote: “Now that it has been established that Mirabel lied about the rape allegation, I expect the police and the agencies in charge of handling rape and assault cases to ensure she is penalized and receives the same punishment a rapist would get. We live in a very wicked society where rapists and rape apologists look for excuses to continue abusing women.

“We should NEVER allow women like this to empower evil men! She must be penalized.”

In a follow-up video, Tacha stated that false rape claims undermine real victims, giving rapists and rape apologists an excuse to dismiss genuine allegations.

The reality star also urged women to refrain from making false rape accusations against men who may have offended them, stressing that such acts discredit real victims and make their claims harder to believe.

Mirabel had initially claimed she was raped at her residence while struggling with insomnia. She alleged that her supposed assailant cut her with a blade and threatened her afterwards, sharing private messages she claimed were from the perpetrator. However, she later admitted the entire story was fabricated when invited by the Ogun State Police Command for questioning, following appeals from well-meaning Nigerians and charitable organisations seeking justice.
