The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adewole Adebayo, has warned that voter apathy is the biggest threat to 2027 general elections, urging Nigerians to participate and reject the idea that elections are predetermined.

Adebayo said President Bola Tinubu will not win a second term in 2027, insisting the election should be decided by ideas, performance, and the will of Nigerians rather than alliances or manipulation.

He made these remarks during a recent media interview after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the list of candidates for the 2027 election.

Adebayo said the campaign should focus on poverty, insecurity, and economic hardship, not personality politics, urging candidates to present real solutions.

“The next six months should be about how to solve Nigeria’s problems, not a reality TV show where personalities overshadow national issues,” he said.

On opposition unity, Adebayo said Nigeria’s challenges require all citizens, including APC members, rather than a narrow coalition, expressing confidence that Tinubu would be voted out due to public dissatisfaction.

He also criticised the 2023 election, saying future polls should be candidate versus candidate, not candidates against INEC, and that results should reflect performance. He ruled out stepping down for any consensus candidate, saying every qualified Nigerian has the right to run and only voters should decide the winner.

Adebayo also dismissed claims of crisis in the SDP, saying INEC’s publication of candidates is a statutory duty and that the party held a peaceful convention and completed its nominations without dispute.
