Why I can’t fill my parents’ shoes — Fountain of Life pastor, Tolu Odukoya
Fountain of Life pastor, Tolu Odukoya, has explained why she cannot fill the shoes of her late mother, Pastor Bimbo Odukoya, and her father, Pastor Taiwo Odukoya, stating that she is determined to forge her own path.
Speaking during a recent interview on the Dear Ife series, Odukoya addressed long-standing expectations that she would step into her parents’ roles, noting that such comparisons have followed her for years.
She clarified that while she deeply respects her parents’ achievements, she does not see herself as a continuation of their journey. “Those shoes, my feet are not inside,” she said, adding that their legacy is something she admires rather than something she must embody.
According to her, choosing not to “step into” her parents’ roles does not amount to rejecting their influence but rather reflects her desire to avoid living a life that does not align with her individuality.
Odukoya acknowledged that she has benefited from a strong foundation laid by her parents but described it as one that comes with high expectations and little room for error.
She explained that inheriting such a legacy places pressure on her to maintain standards and avoid actions that could diminish the values associated with her family name.
The daughter of the renowned preacher also spoke about the weight of being a firstborn, admitting that the responsibilities attached to the role have been challenging and not something she initially desired.
Despite the pressures, she attributed her resilience to early spiritual influence from her mother, who she said had expressed strong expectations about her future even before she was born, shaping her sense of purpose and direction.
