Widow left homeless as midnight fire destroys family house in Ado-Ekiti

By Boye Oyeyemi –

A widow in the Onola community of Ado-Ekiti has been thrown into distress after a late-night fire gutted the only house left behind by her late husband, leaving her and her children without shelter.

Residents said the incident occurred around 1am on Tinuola Street, when flames were first noticed on the roof of a tenant’s kitchen before spreading rapidly to other parts of the building.

Efforts by neighbours to contain the fire were unsuccessful, while firefighters who later arrived at the scene were unable to salvage the property.

The widow, whose husband died in August, was overwhelmed by grief and unable to speak to journalists who visited the scene.

A former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Ekiti State and spokesman for the community, Mr. Ayo Ajiboye, described the incident as tragic and appealed for immediate assistance to the bereaved family.

He urged government agencies and well-meaning individuals to step in to help the widow rebuild her life.
