Yakubu not sacked- INEC Spokesman, Presidency

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Presidency have debunked widespread reports that the Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu has been sacked by President Bola Tinubu.
The commission disclosed on Monday that the report was false after a viral WhatsApp message stated that Yakubu had been replaced with one Prof. Olamilekan.
Reacting, the Chief Press Secretary CPS to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, urged members of the public to disregard the report.
“Please, disregard. It is not true,” Oyekanmi simply said.
Also, reacting to the claims, the Senior Special Adviser to the President on Digital and New Media, O’tega Ogra, described the news as false and urged the public to disregard it.
“Disregard any fake news making the rounds about the replacement of the INEC Chairman,” Ogra wrote in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
He emphasised that any such decision or announcement would emanate from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation or another official communication channel.
“Any such announcement will come from the SGF’s office or any other official source,” he added.
Yakubu’s second tenure as INEC Chairman ends later this year.
