Your reforms paved way for Bayelsa projects — Diri hails Tinubu
Governor Douye Diri has credited the policy interventions of President Bola Tinubu for enabling the successful delivery of key infrastructure projects in Bayelsa State.
Speaking on Friday at a civic reception in Yenagoa during the President’s visit, Diri said federal reforms in the power sector enabled the state to complete its 60-megawatt gas-fired independent power plant.
“Your administration’s decisive policy interventions have paved the way for meaningful reforms… enabling us to deliver on our pledge of reliable, independent energy,” the governor said.
He described the project as a breakthrough for the state, adding, “For us, it is a cause for thanksgiving and rejoicing.”
President Tinubu signed Nigeria’s landmark power sector reform, the Electricity Act 2023, into law on June 9, 2023, marking a major shift in the country’s electricity industry by decentralising power generation, transmission, and distribution, and allowing states to generate, transmit, and distribute electricity independently of the national grid.
Speaking further, Diri also pointed to federal support in the form of waivers for the importation of turbines and other equipment, noting that such approvals were critical to the project’s execution.
The governor further highlighted other projects inaugurated during the visit, including the Angiama–Oporoma Bridge and new road networks in Yenagoa, which he said would improve connectivity and unlock economic opportunities.
According to him, the developments are part of his administration’s “Assured Prosperity” agenda aimed at driving growth and improving residents’ quality of life.
He also commended the Tinubu administration for approving the second phase of the Nembe-Brass Road, describing it as vital to Bayelsa’s long-term economic development.
President Tinubu, who commissioned the projects, praised Diri’s leadership and reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to supporting states through policies that promote development.
