2027: Kwara North APC caucus backs Bolarinwa, Tinubu, rejects zoning

The Kwara North caucus of the All Progressives Congress has endorsed Dr. Bashir Omolaja Bolarinwa as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State, while also declaring support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The position was announced on Wednesday in Ilorin by the caucus coordinator, Lukman Sabi-Musa, who spoke on behalf of stakeholders from Edu, Patigi, Moro, Kiama and Baruten local government areas.
Sabi-Musa described Bolarinwa as a leader with proven integrity and administrative competence, citing his role in the “O to Ge” movement and his governance experience as key strengths.
The caucus, however, rejected ongoing calls to zone the governorship to Kwara North, insisting that merit must take precedence over regional considerations.
“The ultimate objective of governance is not merely to produce a governor based on origin, but to ensure purposeful leadership that will uplift our region and the entire state,” Sabi-Musa said.
The group also distanced itself from recent rallies and statements by some individuals advocating zoning, alleging that such efforts were driven by personal political interests.
“We categorically reject these actions and dissociate ourselves from such representations,” he added.
Reaffirming its stance, the caucus maintained that governance should be driven by competence and capacity rather than ethnic or sectional sentiments, while pledging continued support for Tinubu’s administration.
