Tinubu renews Bugaje’s appointment as NBTE Executive Secretary

President Bola Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Idris Muhammad Bugaje as the Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for a second and final five-year term.
The renewal follows a review of his performance and leadership of the agency since his initial appointment on March 14, 2021.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the decision was based on Bugaje’s contributions to reforms in Nigeria’s technical and vocational education sector.
According to the statement, the NBTE under Bugaje recorded significant progress in strengthening Nigeria’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system in line with the administration’s education reform agenda.
Some of the achievements cited include the repositioning of the TVET ecosystem, curriculum modernisation, and the development and review of about 100 national curricula to align with global skills requirements.
President Tinubu also urged Bugaje to use his second term to consolidate ongoing reforms and complete critical initiatives already underway in the sector.
The National Board for Technical Education is the regulatory body responsible for overseeing technical education and setting standards for polytechnics and other technical institutions in Nigeria.
