Accord alleges police shielding APC thugs, demands IGP’s intervention

The Osun State chapter of the Accord Party has accused the Nigeria Police Force of shielding suspected All Progressives Congress (APC) thugs allegedly involved in violent attacks across the state and called on the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to order an impartial investigation into the allegations.

In a statement signed by the party’s state chairman, Pastor Victor Akande, the party questioned the neutrality of the Osun State Police Command, alleging that its actions had created the impression that it was protecting individuals responsible for violence.

“The attempt by the police to present a one-sided narrative while deliberately ignoring the activities of notorious APC-backed thugs has only reinforced the growing public perception that the state command has abandoned its constitutional responsibility of impartiality in favour of political protection.

The people of Osun deserve facts, not carefully manufactured stories designed to protect politically connected individuals,” Akande said.

He accused the police of shielding individuals identified as Asiri Eniba, Ojuyobo, D-Law and other alleged APC thugs, claiming they had continued to perpetrate violence in different parts of the state without being arrested or prosecuted.

Akande also alleged that the command had embarked on selective arrests by targeting transport union members not aligned with the APC-backed faction while allowing those allegedly responsible for violence to operate freely.

He further claimed that APC loyalists had taken control of motor parks across the state despite police assurances that the facilities would remain inaccessible to rival groups.

The Accord chairman urged the IGP to order a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the allegations, ensure anyone found culpable is prosecuted regardless of political affiliation, and end what he described as the harassment, intimidation and arbitrary arrest of transport union members and other residents.
