Osun APC alleges plot to disrupt INEC chairman’s visit, seeks security intervention

The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has alleged a plot to disrupt the official visit of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Ojo Amupitan, to the state.

In a statement issued by the head of its Media and Publicity Committee, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the council claimed it had received intelligence that some members of the Accord Party were planning a protest during the INEC chairman’s stakeholder engagement ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The APC alleged that the protest was aimed at disrupting the engagement and demanding the removal of the Osun State Resident Electoral Commissioner.

The party further claimed that the protest was being sponsored by Yeyeluwa Dupe Adeleke, elder sister of Governor Ademola Adeleke, alleging that women and hoodlums from Ede and Osogbo would be mobilised to cause disorder.

“The council received credible intelligence alleging that the protest is intended to create confusion during the stakeholder engagement and undermine public confidence in the electoral process.

“Our sources allege that the protest would involve women and political thugs who could attempt to disrupt the chairman’s engagements and create scenes capable of generating unnecessary tension and controversy ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election,” the statement read.

The council called on security agencies to provide adequate security at all venues to be visited by the INEC chairman and ensure that stakeholders participate in the engagement without intimidation or disruption.

It also urged political parties and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and in accordance with the law.
