I gave my first N100m cheque to my wife — Richard Mofe-Damijo

Veteran Nollywood actor Richard Mofe-Damijo, popularly known as RMD, has revealed that he gave the first N100 million cheque he ever received to his wife, Jumobi.
Speaking during an interview on The Morayo Show, the 65-year-old actor described himself as an “incurable romantic,” saying he enjoys giving his wife gifts because receiving gifts is her love language.
RMD said his wife was surprised when she received the cheque and asked whether he wanted her to keep the money for their children, but he insisted it was for her to spend as she wished.
According to the actor, he deliberately gives his wife the biggest things he owns so she never has to ask him for anything, adding that most of the money eventually goes towards caring for their children.
“I’m an incurable romantic. These days, it isn’t about flowers and chocolates anymore because ladies like money. For my wife, though, her love language is gifts. The biggest compliment I get from her is when she says that every important thing she has or owns was bought by me, so I try to gift her as much as I can.
“The first biggest cheque I ever received was for N100 million. When it was presented to me, I told my manager to give it to my wife. When she got it, she asked if I wanted her to keep it for the children. I told her no, that she should keep it for herself and do whatever she wanted with it.
“The trick is that I know 90 per cent of the money will eventually end up being spent on the children. I like giving my wife the biggest things I have so she never has to ask for anything. All the big and beautiful things in the house are hers,” he said.
RMD married Jumobi, a former television presenter, in 2000, four years after the death of his first wife, May Ellen Ezekiel. The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in December 2025.
