Oyo State Governor and Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate Seyi Makinde has challenged his opponents in the 2027 presidential election to jump off a stage, saying Nigerians should vote for them if they can replicate his feat.

Makinde issued the challenge on Thursday during the APM South-West Presidential Campaign Town Hall Meeting at the Ondo State International Conference Centre, popularly known as The Dome, in Akure, Ondo State.

The governor, who jumped down from the stage during the event, said he would not make age an issue in the campaign but would focus on candidates’ energy, endurance and ability to handle the demands of leadership.

“While I will not make age an issue of this campaign, I will make energy, having energy, being able to stay up late, have the rigours, have the energy to deal with the challenges that we’re faced as a country,” he said.

He urged Nigerians to assess presidential candidates based on their capacity to withstand the demands of office, adding, “So please, when they bring their own presidential candidate, let the candidate come here and also jump down! If they can do that, vote for them!” His demonstration reportedly drew cheers and chants from the crowd.

Makinde also unveiled the APM’s four-point policy agenda under its “RESET Nigeria” platform, which focuses on the economy, education, security and socio-political development. He said the priorities were aimed at addressing the country’s challenges and improving the living conditions of Nigerians.

The governor criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, citing electricity supply and fluctuations in petroleum prices as examples of issues affecting households and businesses. He urged Nigerians to use the 2027 general election to decide whether the current administration should remain in office.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed attended the meeting and expressed confidence in the APM’s political prospects, describing it as a major opposition movement. Makinde’s appearance formed part of the party’s efforts to promote its “RESET Nigeria” agenda and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
