Oyebanji tasks APC campaign council with mobilising non-voters for Tinubu
By Boye Oyeyemi
Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, has directed the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in the state to identify and mobilise registered voters who did not participate in previous elections ahead of President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
Oyebanji gave the directive on Friday while inaugurating a 157-member campaign council, urging members to prioritise grassroots mobilisation and voter engagement rather than relying solely on rallies and political campaigns.
The governor, who chairs the council, expressed concern that only about 400,000 of the more than one million registered voters in Ekiti participated in the June 20 governorship election. He described the low turnout as an area requiring urgent attention ahead of the 2027 general election.
He therefore charged members to investigate the reasons eligible voters stayed away from previous elections and develop strategies to encourage greater participation in the next electoral cycle.
Oyebanji also directed the council to establish a comprehensive mobilisation structure covering all 16 local government areas, wards and polling units in the state, adding that the framework should be ready within two weeks.
Furthermore, he urged APC members to put aside their political differences and extend their mobilisation efforts beyond party loyalists. He said the campaign should welcome support from willing members of other political parties.
Speaking on behalf of the council, Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele, pledged the commitment of members to the campaign, expressing confidence that the party’s political structure and experience from the recent governorship election would help secure improved electoral results for Tinubu.
Similarly, the APC State Chairman, Sola Elesin, said the council was inaugurated to strengthen the party’s electoral performance in 2027. He urged members to demonstrate commitment and work towards making Ekiti one of the states with the highest number of votes for the president.
