Adeboye gives security chiefs 90-day deadline to defeat terrorists

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has called on Nigeria’s security chiefs to eliminate terrorists within 90 days or resign from office.

Speaking in a video shared on the church’s official X account on Tuesday, Adeboye urged the Federal Government to take urgent action to address the country’s growing security challenges.

“If I were asked to make suggestions, I would say quietly to our government, move fast. And tell our security chiefs, get rid of these terrorists within 90 days, or resign,” Adeboye said.

The cleric stressed that while religious leaders can advise political authorities, the responsibility for implementing such measures rests with the commander-in-chief.

Reflecting on a similar recommendation he made to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Adeboye said the late president subsequently directed security chiefs to tackle insecurity but failed to enforce the directive after the deadline expired.

In 2021, Buhari ordered the military and security agencies to intensify operations against bandits, kidnappers and their sponsors, urging them to adopt a more proactive approach to security threats.

“He ran with that advice, but he didn’t follow it through. Because he gave the order as the commander-in-chief of the armed forces. The three months went, and the work was not done,” Adeboye said.

The RCCG leader disclosed that he later questioned Buhari over the lack of follow-up action after the deadline elapsed but declined to reveal details of their discussions.
