Adeleke denies alleged arms plot, accuses Osun APC of sponsoring violence

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has denied allegations linking his administration to an alleged plan to procure weapons for political thugs ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

The governor, in a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, called on the Presidency and national security agencies to disregard what he described as false alarms raised by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. He alleged that the opposition party had been raising and deploying armed thugs responsible for attacks on Accord Party members.

Adeleke said the allegation was a ploy to divert attention from the Osun APC’s alleged destruction of Accord billboards and physical assaults on members of the party. He maintained that his party and administration enjoyed overwhelming public support and were confident of victory in the August 15 poll.

He denied the involvement of any government or party official in illegal activities, insisting that the Osun State Government operates within the bounds of the law and due process.

The governor also challenged the Head of Media and Publicity Committee of the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council, Mr Remi Omowaiye, to explain his alleged role in the disappearance of state security drones and communication equipment linked to armoured personnel carriers.

“We know why the Osun APC came up with its libellous and reprehensible accusations. The opposition is surprised at the state government’s proactive actions on recent security scares.

“We call on the Presidency and national security agencies to ignore the false alarms by the Osun APC. Governor Adeleke is a man of peace who is set to be re-elected by the grace of God and the people of Osun,” the statement added.
