Akure court remands two men over alleged burglary, theft

Two men, Nasiru Usman and Abdulrahman Sanni, have been remanded at the Olokuta Correctional Centre by an Akure Magistrate’s Court over their alleged involvement in a burglary and theft case involving property valued at three million naira.

The suspects were arraigned by the Ondo State Security Network Agency, also known as Amotekun Corps, on a five-count charge bordering on burglary and stealing.

Prosecuting counsel, T.T. Samuel, told the court that the alleged offences were committed on May 5, 2026, along Cultural Street on Ondo Road in Akure.

According to the prosecution, the defendants allegedly broke into the residence of one Esther Samuel and stole a 3kg gas cylinder and cooked food worth N70,000.

Samuel further alleged that the duo also burgled the home of Victoria Samuel, making away with household items including a pressing iron, gas cylinder, bags of rice, cooking pots, a mobile phone, a karaoke player and other valuables.

The prosecutor added that several other items, including adire wrappers, MP3 players, wristwatches, phones, tools and household equipment, were stolen during the operation, with the total value estimated at three million naira.

Reacting, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges, while their counsel, R.T. Boboye, urged the court to admit them to bail, assuring that they would provide reliable sureties and attend trial.

In his ruling, Magistrate Damilola Sekoni granted each defendant bail in the sum of one million naira with two sureties in like sum. However, they were unable to meet the conditions and were remanded in custody pending further hearing on July 3, 2026.
