Akwa-Ibom gets new Statistician-General as Governor Eno demands coordination of state data

The Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Umo Eno, has sworn in Mr Uduak Effiong Isaac as the new Statistician-General of the state, charging him to strengthen the management and coordination of statistical data to support governance and development.

The inauguration took place on Monday during the first session of the State Executive Council meeting held at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo.

Speaking at the ceremony, Eno said the appointment reflected his desire to have a competent professional who could not only generate statistical reports but also defend the credibility of the data used in government planning and decision-making.

The governor stressed that the implementation of his administration’s ARISE Agenda must be backed by accurate statistics, directing the new Statistician-General to provide him with monthly reports on the state’s development indicators.

Eno said Isaac would continue to oversee his previous role as Permanent Secretary in charge of Human Capital Development while serving in his new capacity.

He recalled that Isaac’s work in documenting the state’s achievements in human capital development contributed to Akwa Ibom hosting the launch of the second phase of the Federal Government’s National Human Capital Development programme in 2025, during which the state was ranked first in the country.

“The development effort of government through the ARISE Agenda must be statistically captured. I expect a monthly statistical report on the state of the state, and I urge all Ministries, Departments and Agencies to give the Statistician-General maximum cooperation to enable him succeed,” the governor said.

Speaking with journalists after taking the oath of office, Isaac thanked the governor for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to discharge his responsibilities with diligence, professionalism and integrity.
