APC leadership hierarchy, others holistic’s endorsement of Tinubu for second term in office, by Kola Amzat

Since the turn of 4th Republic in 1999, the Nigeria democratic process has continued to evolve. But, never in the country’s chequered political history have the entire organs and leadership of a ruling political party and several other political stakeholders have come out boldly to endorse a sitting president for another term of office!

Instructively, that’s what the APC National Working Committee (NWC), leadership of the national assembly, as well as Progressive Governors’ Forum, did during APC Renewed Hope Agenda Summit, held recently at the State House Conference Centre, FCT, Abuja. And, they’re collectively justified in doing so.

Meanwhile, at the event, while responding to the gale of defections to the ruling party by sitting governors, serving senators, serving members of parliament and other notable political figures across the country, the president confidently submitted that he didn’t expect people to remain in “a sinking ship without a life jacket” and that, with what APC government has achieved just within two years of inauguration, according to him, he’s expecting more people to defect to the party.

Unequivocally, the president asserted that defection is part of the game and that absolutely, there is nothing untoward about it. He further submitted that citizens have constitutional rights to choose between associations.

It’s only the politically naïve and less-discerning minds that would not agree with the president’s assertions, especially with the present development in the nation political spare.

The PDP has totally crumbled. What remains of the hitherto supposed biggest party in Africa until 2015, is ordinary carcass.

It’s that carcass that the few surviving members of PDP have handed over to Bukola Saraki to revive. The gregarious former governor of Kwara state knows that the mandate given to him is a herculean task, but, to forestall political idleness and irrelevance, he has to take up the assignment, only to keep him occupied.

But, what has his committee made of that assignment since their inauguration? For the purpose of brokering a truce, as well as halt his defection, as well as his mammoth crowd, they visited a politically shrewd and very calculative Enugu state governor who has already resolved to move to other party, on excuse of PDP hierarchy’s continued failure to recognize Ude Okoye as General Secretary of the party.

Of course, the politically savvy governor is aware that this is not possible on account of the Supreme Court order that had given judgment in favour of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the constitutionally recognized Secretary General of the party.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, FCT minister, Nyesom Wike seems to have finally nailed the coffin of PDP, offering the party no further room for survival.

For years, Seyi Makinde, Oyo state governor has remained the best friend of the immediate past governor of Rivers state. The duo collaborated with former governors of Abia, Benue and Enugu states to form G5, the powerful group that significantly frustrated Atiku Abubakar victory during the 2023 presidential election.

Nigerians vividly recollect that Wike Nyesom was the anchor of that group, spiritedly mobilizing and giving strategic direction to the group.

The same Wike has now drawn a battle line with Seyi Makinde and the party stakeholders, pulling out from all reconciliation efforts, accusing them of undermining various peace agreements reached following the internal crisis that engulfed the party after 2023 general elections, citing betrayal, dishonesty and what he described as pattern of bad faith among the key party leaders.

He specifically laid the blame at the doorsteps of Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde, who he unreservedly accused as the architect of the party’s internal dysfunction.

According to him, Seyi Makinde refusal to honour prior agreements had become the central obstacles to reconciliation efforts.

According to Wike, the earlier agreements reached includes: recognition of Samuel Anyanwu as the legitimate PDP National Secretary in line with a Apex Court ruling, the withdrawal of all cases involving the Rivers State PDP chapter, as well as a halt to calls for a state of emergency in the state.

With the above developments, does anyone still in doubt why Umo Eno is desperately poised to defect to APC and has even mandated all his commissioners to follow him, otherwise, those who refuse should consider themselves formally out of the cabinet?

Is there still any controversy why Enugu state governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, alongside his cabinet members may soon call it quits with PDP, to find solace and prosperous political abode in APC?

Recently, all three (3) PDP serving senators jointly came out boldly to endorse President Tinubu for re-election in 2027. It’s reportedly rumored that their endorsement is preparatory to their eventual defection.

Of course, when all the three (3) controllers of senatorial districts of a state have defected, seamlessly and conveniently, they might have succeeded in removing carpet off the feet of the governor.

In the weeks ahead, Ademola Adeleke would have discovered that he is now a fish outside the ocean and that there is no other option for him than to defect, as well as endorse Asiwaju Tinubu for a second term in office in 2027.

The North Central APC leadership has endorsed the president, as well as Governor Caleb Mutfwang of plateau state, a PDP governor, for re-election.

Technically, what they had affirmed to the governor is that his fate is tied towards his defection to APC, as well as totally supporting the aspirations of the president.

As we draw closer to another electoral cycle, there are other PDP governors in the North that are poised to defect. But, time would tell.

The pertinent question remains: Why would sitting governors, serving senators and parliamentarians, as well as other key political figures across the land would desire alternative political platforms to further their political ambitions, especially, in a multi-ethnicity and multi-religious state as Nigeria, with more than 300 languages and diverse challenges?

Why would all and sundry prefer to cast their loins on a single leader?

The plausible response in this instance is the purposeful, patriotic, resourceful, bold, courageous and visionary leadership that have been provided by Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in steering the affairs of the nation since his inauguration as Presidentm Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Federal Republic of Nigeria.

There is no doubt that the president has been fair and just, to all six (6) geo-political zones in the allocation of resources, distribution of key appointments, as well as prompt attention to security issues and challenges across the country.

Very instructively, the hitherto neglected South East zone has been totally REINTEGRATED to the mainstream of the nation’s politics.

The belligerent Senator Alli Ndume, just a few days ago submitted that the president has addressed all the issues of the North, with particular references to fair allocation of resources and even appointment of northern key stakeholders in positions of authority & power.

The president and his government performance have been incredible.

Federal government’s focus on economic reforms for long-term gains has continued to receive positive reviews from within and outside the country.

The economic reforms are working, as things begin to be looking up.

Government efforts in tackling economic instability, improve and fortify security architecture countrywide, reduce corruption as much as possible, significantly reform governance and ultimately to lift millions of Nigerians out of poverty are beginning to yield positive results.

Forex reform has extinct arbitrage. Positive signals of the reforms have continued to attract foreign investments that will ultimately drive jobs creation, as well as cause the production of needed goods will immensely improve the standard of living of Nigerians across the length and breadth of our dear nation.

The essence of governance is essentially to deliver the dividends of democracy to all cadres, regardless of creed, ethnicity, religious, sex, and political affiliations.

Since President Tinubu got inaugurated in May 2023, the above have been his priority and pre-occupation.

Now that he has ample opportunity, as constitutionally stipulated to bid for re-election, why can’t millions of Nigerians across the country move behind him to give him landslide victory during the forthcoming elections so that he could consolidate on what he has done, as well as driving the country to prosperity.

Why are the leaders of oppositions-Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and others running from pillar to post to unseat and halt his re-election?

The onus is on Nigerian people to affirm to these people to immediately back out of the unproductive ventures that would obviously not bring them results.

They should be advised to hold their peace and wait for another electoral cycle, when the incumbent president would have exhausted his constitutionally backed two-term tenures
