Brymo opens up about long-standing feud with former record label, Chocolate City

Renowned Nigerian singer Brymo has opened up about his long-standing dispute with his former record label, Chocolate City, insisting that their relationship went sour because of business disagreements, not personal differences.

Speaking during a recent appearance on the Yanga FM podcast, Brymo explained that the dispute stemmed from a breach of contract, which eventually escalated into a court case. He dismissed claims that the issue was merely a “beef.”

“It was business that didn’t work out, and I was taken to court. We were on the case for three years, and now the case is out of court,” he claimed.

Speaking about his career, the ‘Ara Nbe’ crooner said he decided to take charge of his career after realising the need to become financially independent.

“I was becoming a man. I was already 29 years old when it all started. I needed to make a living,” he said.

Recounting his experience with Chocolate City, the singer alleged that the record label failed to fulfil certain obligations in his contract, claiming he personally sourced producers and financed the recording of his debut album after the label failed to provide the agreed support.

Brymo further alleged that despite the success of his album, Son of a Kapenta, he has never received royalties from the project, including the hit song Oleku.

“They distributed the album and took the money they made from it. They still have the album to this day. I’ve not made anything from it. Nothing,” he alleged.
