Ekiti residents seek help as school roof damages four houses

By Boye Oyeyemi –

Residents of the Agric-Olope area in Ado Ekiti have appealed to Governor Biodun Oyebanji for urgent intervention after the roof of St. Francis Catholic Nursery and Primary School was blown off by a rainstorm, damaging nearby buildings.

The incident, which occurred during a heavy downpour, affected four houses and left the occupants stranded.

The victims said their attempts to obtain government support had failed, as officials, including those at the State Emergency Management Agency, allegedly told them to bear the losses because the damage was caused by a natural disaster.

Two women whose homes were severely impacted said their roofs, windows, appliances, and documents were destroyed when water flooded their houses.

“The rain destroyed not just our roof but our windows too. We are struggling to survive and don’t know where to start,” one of the women said.

They called on Governor Oyebanji to assist them and help reduce the financial burden of repairing their damaged properties.
