Faleke urges civil servants to uphold integrity, due process
The Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Finance, James Faleke, has called on civil servants across Nigeria to prioritise integrity, professionalism and adherence to due process as a pathway to accelerating national development.
Faleke made the appeal on Sunday in Abuja while speaking with journalists on the sidelines of a book presentation and retirement ceremony held in honour of the Clerk of the committee, Oscar Okoro.
The event also featured the launch of Okoro’s book titled “The Nigerian Legislature; A Practical Guide for Lawmakers.”
The lawmaker praised Okoro as a diligent and principled public servant, urging younger civil servants to emulate his commitment to duty and ethical standards.
According to Faleke, civil servants remain central to effective governance, describing them as the technical backbone of the public sector who often guide political office holders in policy implementation.
He stressed that national progress depends heavily on the willingness of civil servants to uphold established rules even under political pressure.
Faleke who represents Ikeja federal constituency further commended Okoro’s dedication, noting that his focus on procedural correctness rather than financial gain distinguished him throughout his service. He also expressed optimism about Okoro’s post-retirement life, wishing him success in future endeavours.
The Deputy Chairman of the committee, Abubakar Saidu, described the retiring clerk’s relationship with him as both professional and familial, praising his discipline, patience and exemplary conduct.
