Gov. Inuwa constitutes panel to investigate suspended senior prosecutor

Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has constituted a high-powered panel to investigate allegations of misconduct against the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in the state Ministry of Justice, Abubakar Jungudo.

The governor also approved the immediate suspension of Jungudo pending the outcome of the investigation.

The Head of Civil Service, Prof. Mu’azu Shehu, who conveyed the governor’s approval, said the action followed a careful review of the complaints and the gravity of the allegations against the acting DPP.

According to Shehu, the suspension was intended to ensure an impartial investigation.

“The Governor, having carefully considered the nature and gravity of the allegations contained in the complaint, also directed the immediate suspension of the Acting Director of Public Prosecutions pending the outcome of the investigation,” he said.

He added that the decision “is in line with the principles of due process and is intended to ensure a fair, transparent and unhindered investigation into the allegations.”

Justice Haruna Habila Kereng of the Gombe State High Court will chair the investigative panel.

Other members include a director from the Ministry of Justice, representatives of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), the Assistant Inspector-General of Police’s Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Gombe, and the Department of State Services (DSS). The Permanent Secretary, Establishment and Service Matters in the Office of the Head of Civil Service, will serve as secretary.
