Suspected bandits have abducted a staff member of the Akure North Local Government Council, Mr. Samson Gbenga Sanni, popularly known as “Timber,” in Ilu-Abo community of Ondo State.
The incident occurred at about 7:10 p.m. on Sunday at the Agbelere area of Ilu-Abo, shortly after the victim reportedly returned to his residence.
Eyewitnesses said about three armed men emerged from a nearby bush and forcibly seized Sanni in front of his house before whisking him away to an unknown destination.
The victim, an indigene of Akunu-Akoko in Akoko North-West Local Government Area, was said to have just arrived home when the attackers struck.
It was gathered that his wife and two children were inside the house at the time of the incident and helplessly watched as the gunmen carried out the abduction.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, Jimoh Abayomi, said the command had been notified of the incident.
He further disclosed that tactical and intelligence teams had been deployed to the area to track the kidnappers and ensure the safe rescue of the victim.
The abduction has thrown residents of Ilu-Abo into panic, with renewed concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of Ondo State.
