JUST IN: Suspected IED explosion claims lives in Kwara community

Several lives have been lost following a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) explosion in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Sources said the blast occurred on Monday, affecting residents in the area, with a driver identified as Zuberu reportedly among the victims.

A woman was also said to have sustained injuries in the incident and was subsequently rushed to Ilorin for medical treatment on the directive of the Kaiama Local Government chairman.

Although no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion, residents suspect that the device may have been planted by suspected Boko Haram elements.

The incident comes weeks after a deadly attack in the same area, where at least 75 residents were reportedly killed and several homes destroyed by suspected terrorists in Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities.

Following that attack, President Bola Tinubu had ordered the deployment of a military battalion to strengthen security in the affected communities.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement about the incident.
