Lagos APC dismisses NDC’s Obi victory prediction

..says 2027 election is a fresh contest 

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has dismissed the National Democratic Congress (NDC) prediction that its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will defeat President Bola Tinubu by a wider margin in the state in the 2027 election.

Lagos APC spokesman, Seye Oladejo, in a statement on Sunday, said that the 2023 presidential election result should not be treated as a permanent advantage for any candidate or party.

He was responding to comments by NDC National Publicity Secretary Osa Director, who said Obi would repeat his 2023 victory in Lagos and widen his margin.

Oladejo added “Lagos does not belong to Peter Obi. Lagos does not belong to APC either. Lagos belongs to Lagosians”.

He said parties would have to persuade voters anew in 2027 through their candidates, policies, organisation, mobilisation and records.

The Lagos APC spokesman urged the NDC to focus on its campaign programme instead of treating the outcome of an election yet to be held as a foregone conclusion.

Oladejo also cautioned against relying on the youth mobilisation and social-media enthusiasm associated with the 2023 election, urging parties to address employment, education, skills development, security, infrastructure and economic opportunities.

He advised political actors against reducing Lagos politics to ethnic or religious calculations, describing the state as cosmopolitan.

He said the 2027 election should be treated as a fresh contest, with voters assessing parties and candidates based on their policies, records and engagement with issues affecting the state.
