Makinde extends Oyo workers’ wage award by three months

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has approved a three-month extension of the wage award for state workers and assured public servants that the transportation subsidy introduced by his administration will continue.

Makinde announced the decision Friday shortly after resuming official duties at the Governor’s Office, Agodi, Ibadan, following his annual leave.

During his absence, his deputy, Bayo Lawal, served as acting governor in accordance with constitutional provisions on the transfer of power.

Addressing civil servants and other public servants who welcomed him back, Makinde said the extension of the wage award was necessitated by the prevailing economic challenges confronting workers and residents of the state.

He said his administration remained committed to workers’ welfare, particularly amid rising costs and increasing pressure on household incomes.

The governor also assured workers that the transportation subsidy would continue as part of measures to cushion the effects of economic hardship on residents.

Makinde used the occasion to highlight his administration’s adherence to constitutional provisions, particularly the transfer of power to his deputy while he was away on annual leave.

He also challenged President Bola Tinubu to adopt a similar approach whenever he is outside the country or otherwise unavailable to personally perform the functions of his office.
