Mbah rallies support for APC candidate Asogwa ahead of Enugu North by-election
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has urged voters in Enugu North Senatorial District to support the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Chief Chinedu Asogwa, in the June 20 by-election, citing ongoing development projects across the zone.
Speaking at the grand finale of the APC campaign on Wednesday, Mbah described Asogwa as the best candidate for the seat and said the party’s achievements in infrastructure, education and healthcare should earn it overwhelming support at the polls.
The by-election is being held to fill the vacancy created by the death of Senator Okey Ezea in November 2025. A victory for the APC would mark the party’s first-ever senatorial election win in Enugu State.
The governor highlighted several projects undertaken by his administration, including the appointment of an indigene of Enugu North as Vice Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), the construction of 102 Type 2 Primary Healthcare Centres, major road projects and the planned commissioning of the Ohebedim Aluminium Factory.
Mbah, however, warned party supporters against complacency and directed them to embark on intensive door-to-door campaigns, stressing that only massive mobilisation would guarantee victory for the APC candidate. “I can sense victory already in the air, but the work is not done yet. Do not go back home and sleep. As you leave here, go door-to-door and tell the people where to vote,” he said.
Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai said the governor had already outlined priorities for Asogwa if elected, including securing federal budget allocations for roads in Enugu North and increased funding for UNN and the Federal Polytechnic, Ohodo.
Former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi also endorsed the APC candidate and dismissed reports that he was supporting another aspirant, insisting that voting for Asogwa would ensure quality representation for the district.
In his remarks, Asogwa thanked party leaders and residents for their support, promising not to disappoint them if elected. He pledged to focus on human empowerment and development while other speakers at the rally expressed confidence that the APC would secure victory in the by-election.
