NELFUND disburses N527.8m to cover fees of 5,448 UDUS, NDU students
The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has disbursed N527.8 million in institutional fees for 5,448 students of Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS), and Niger Delta University (NDU), Bayelsa State, in the latest round of payments under its student loan scheme.
The disbursement was confirmed in separate acknowledgement letters issued by the two universities, which expressed appreciation to the fund for the financial intervention aimed at reducing the burden of tuition costs on students.
According to Usmanu Danfodiyo University, it received N401,752,080 as the second batch of registration fee payments for the 2025/2026 academic session, benefiting 4,323 students. The university said the funds were paid into its e-Collection account on March 24, 2026.
In a letter dated April 29, 2026, the university’s Bursar, Faruku Koko, who signed on behalf of the vice-chancellor, thanked NELFUND Managing Director and Chief Executive, Akintunde Sawyer, and his management team for the intervention. The institution also expressed optimism that additional disbursements would follow under the scheme.
Similarly, Niger Delta University confirmed receiving N126,070,000 from NELFUND to settle the school fees of 1,125 students. The acknowledgement was contained in a letter dated July 24, 2026, and signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Allen Agih.
Agih described the intervention as a major boost to both the students and the university, saying the funding would ease financial pressure on beneficiaries and support their academic pursuits.
He added that the disbursement underscored NELFUND’s commitment to expanding access to higher education through financial assistance for eligible students, while helping institutions recover tuition payments promptly.
The vice-chancellor also commended the fund for sustaining the student loan programme, saying the initiative would continue to strengthen higher education by improving access, supporting institutional development and reducing financial barriers for students.
