NPF celebrates inaugural National Police Day with grand parade in Abuja

The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Monday, April 7, 2025, held a historic celebration to mark its maiden National Police Day at Eagle Square in Abuja, spotlighting the institution’s pivotal role in safeguarding national security.

The event featured a grand parade and procession, where police personnel demonstrated professionalism, tactical expertise, and operational readiness. Spectacular displays included advanced equipment and units such as Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) robots, specialized EOD vehicles, Special Intervention Squad responses by air and land, K9 demonstrations, the Police Mobile Force (PMF), Special Protection Unit (SPU), Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) drills, and peacekeeping gear.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, in his address, described the celebration as a landmark in reaffirming the Force’s commitment to professionalism, community partnership, and service excellence.

He expressed deep gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for declaring April 7 as National Police Day, and pledged to intensify ongoing reforms and deepen the police’s connection with Nigerian communities.

Representing President Tinubu as the Special Guest of Honour, Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, GCON, reiterated the Federal Government’s support for the police.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to improve police welfare, modernize equipment, and enhance operational capacity, while commending the courage and sacrifices of officers across the country.

The event drew high-profile dignitaries including members of the Federal Executive Council, State Governors, National Assembly members, Service Chiefs, retired Inspectors-General of Police, senior officers, and heads of private sector organizations.

The NPF expressed appreciation to all attendees, stakeholders, and partners for making the occasion a success, reaffirming its resolve to build on this milestone, strengthen community relations, and ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians.
