Oluremi Tinubu empowers over 1,000 petty traders in FCT community

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, has empowered more than 1,000 women petty traders in Karon Majigi and the Physically Challenged Colony in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as part of efforts to boost small businesses and promote economic inclusion.

Represented at the event by the Wife of the Vice-President, Hajia Nana Shettima, the First Lady appreciated the community for its continued support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.

Beneficiaries received a range of items including 39 sewing machines, 13 grinding machines, 35 water pumping machines, 45 hair dryers, 16 power chillers, and five tricycle (keke) trucks. In addition, 1,000 traders were given ₦50,000 each to support and expand their businesses.

Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, described the initiative as a demonstration of the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which she said prioritises inclusion and welfare.

“Today’s programme is a clear demonstration of the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, which places the welfare, inclusion and empowerment of all Nigerians at the centre of governance,” she said.

She added that empowering persons with disabilities should be seen as a long-term investment.

“The empowerment of physically challenged persons is not merely an act of charity; it is an investment in human capacity, self-reliance and sustainable development,” she said.

The APC Deputy National Women Leader, Zainab Ibrahim, urged beneficiaries to use the support wisely.

“This is the case of teaching someone how to fish rather than giving you fish to eat and forget,” she said. “I want to urge the beneficiaries to make sure that they judiciously use what they are given, in order to reduce or alleviate poverty in their homes.”
